Web Editor Search

Web Editor Search redesign: one search bar, new filters, sort options, comment drawer, and keyboard shortcuts for faster report navigation.

Written by Shannon Lewis

Web Editor Search has been redesigned to make navigating and polishing reports faster. One search bar now replaces the previous two, filters and sort options match mobile search functionality, and a new comment drawer lets inspectors view and edit comments directly from search results without leaving the search view.

What's New

  • One search bar — The previous "Search Item" and "Search Report" bars have been consolidated into a single search bar. Open it from the toolbar or with Cmd+K (Mac) / Ctrl+K (Windows).

  • Filters — Filter results by comment type (Informational, Limitations, Defects), attributes (Flagged, Incomplete, Has Media, Checked), and severity (Safety Hazard, Major Defect, Minor Defect).

  • Sort options — Sort results by Relevance, Template Order, or Alphabetical. Your sort preference saves across inspections.

  • Search scope toggle — Search the whole report or limit results to a specific section.

  • Titles + Body vs. Titles only toggle — Choose whether search looks at comment titles only or titles and body text.

  • Richer search results — Each result now shows comment type, location in the template, media count, and whether the comment is counting toward report completion for publishing.

  • Comment drawer — Clicking a result opens a drawer where you can edit the comment, change severity, add location, add or manage media, flag, duplicate, delete, use Edit with AI, or jump to the comment in the editor or final report preview — all without leaving search.

  • Keyboard navigation — Use arrow keys to move through results and Enter to open a comment.

  • Search settings — Set a default scope (whole report or current section) and optionally restore the last filters used in the current section.

  • Report Settings menu — Editor Preferences and the Troubleshooting tool have been consolidated into one place under Report Settings.

This update is automatically enabled on all inspector accounts. No action is required.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do my sort and filter preferences save between sessions?

    • Sort preference saves across inspections. Filter memory within a section can be enabled in Search Settings.

  • Can I still navigate directly to a comment in the editor from search?

    • Yes. Click a result to open the comment drawer, then click Go to comment to jump directly to it in the editor.

  • Does the comment drawer let me add photos?

    • Yes. You can add and manage media directly from the comment drawer without leaving search.
