AI Comment Assist in the Web Editor & Mobile App

Use AI Comment Assist to instantly generate professional comment titles, options, and descriptions while writing your report — available in the Spectora web report editor and mobile app.

At Spectora, we're always looking for ways to make your inspections faster, more efficient, and more comprehensive. That's why we're excited to bring AI Comment Assist to the V10 web editor and mobile app! This powerful tool helps inspectors draft detailed, professional comments in seconds — just enter a short prompt describing what you observed, and AI will generate a comment title, answer options, and description for you to review and customize before saving.

Pro tip: Be as specific as possible when inputting keywords and double-check everything before saving, as AI can make mistakes.


Using AI Comment Assist on the Web

Adding a New Comment in the Web Editor

To use AI Comment Assist when creating a new comment in the web report editor:

  1. Open a report and navigate to the Section and Item where you want to add a comment.

  2. Click + Add.

  3. In the "Add a new Comment" modal, click Generate using AI. The modal will close and the Comment Assist panel will open.

  4. Type a short prompt describing your comment in the text field (e.g., leaky kitchen faucet).

  5. Select your Comment TypeCheckbox (yes/no) or Multiple Choice (multiple checkbox options).

  6. Select your preferred Text Length — Normal, Short, or Long.

  7. Click the submit arrow to generate.

  8. Review the AI-generated Comment Title, Comment Options, and Comment Description. All three sections are selected by default — deselect any you don't want included. Each field is editable directly in the panel.

  9. Optionally, check Save to template for use in future reports to add this comment to your template. This is unchecked by default. Learn more about saving to template.

  10. Click Use Selected to add the comment to your report, or Cancel to discard.

If you'd like a different result, click Regenerate before selecting.


Editing an Existing Comment in the Web Editor

To use AI Comment Assist to update a comment that already exists in your report:

  1. Locate the comment you want to edit in the report editor.

  2. Click Edit with AI on the comment. The Comment Assist panel will open.

  3. Enter a prompt or adjust the existing prompt in the text field.

  4. Select your Comment Type and Text Length as needed.

  5. Click the submit arrow to generate.

  6. Review the suggested updates. Each field displays the AI-proposed value along with the current value below it so you can compare before committing.

  7. Edit any fields as needed, then click Use Selected to apply the changes.


Using AI Comment Assist in the Mobile App

Adding a New Comment in the Mobile App

To use AI Comment Assist when creating a new comment in the mobile app:

  1. Open a report and navigate to the Section and Item where you want to add a comment.

  2. Tap + New Comment. The New Comment screen will open.

  3. At the bottom of the screen, tap ✦ Generate Using AI. If your keyboard is open, minimize it first to reveal the button. The Comment Assist screen will open.

  4. Type a short prompt describing your comment in the text field (e.g., leaky kitchen faucet).

  5. Tap the Answer Type dropdown to select Checkbox (yes/no) or Multiple Choice (multiple checkbox options).

  6. Tap the Text Length dropdown to select Normal, Short, or Long.

  7. Tap the submit arrow to generate.

  8. Review the AI-generated Title, Options, and Description. All three sections are selected by default — deselect any you don't want included.

    • To edit the Options list, tap Edit next to Options. From the Edit Options screen, you can reorder, delete, or add values, then tap Save.

    • The Description field is editable directly on the review screen.

  9. Optionally, toggle on Save to template for use in future reports to add this comment to your template. This is off by default.

  10. Tap Use Selected to add the comment to your report, or Cancel to discard.

If you'd like a different result, tap Regenerate before selecting.


Editing an Existing Comment in the Mobile App

To use AI Comment Assist to update a comment that already exists in your report:

  1. Open the comment you want to edit, scroll down, and tap ✦ Edit Using AI at the bottom of the screen. The Comment Assist screen will open.

  2. Enter a prompt or adjust the pre-filled prompt in the text field.

  3. Select your Answer Type and Text Length as needed.

  4. Tap the submit arrow to generate.

  5. Review the suggested updates. Each field displays the AI-proposed value along with the current value below it so you can compare before committing.

  6. Edit any fields as needed, then tap Use Selected to apply the changes, or Cancel to discard.


Text Length Options

AI Comment Assist offers three text length options for generated descriptions:

  • Normal — A comment with a typical amount of text

  • Short — A brief response with minimal wording

  • Long — A more verbose response


Troubleshooting

If you run into any issues while using Comment Assist, here are the most common error messages and how to resolve them.

"Couldn't connect to AI Comment Assist"
AI Comment Assist is temporarily unavailable. Tap or click Refresh to try again.

"Error generating response — Please try again in a minute or two"
Something went wrong during generation. Tap or click Try Again. If the issue persists, reach out to our support team.

"Comment Assist needs an Internet Connection" (mobile only)
AI Comment Assist requires an active internet connection and is not available in offline mode. Reconnect to the internet and try again.


Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is AI Comment Assist available on all versions of Spectora?

    • AI Comment Assist in the web editor and mobile app is only available in V10. Users still on V9 will not have access to this feature. Note that AI Comment Assist in the template editor is available regardless of version.

  • Is AI Comment Assist trained on my inspection reports or account data?

    • No. AI Comment Assist is not trained on any of your personal data, inspection reports, or account information. It was trained on publicly available data, licensed datasets, and inspection best practices — with a focus on clearly communicating observations, their impact, and the steps homebuyers would need to remedy them, such as a fix or consulting a professional.

  • Which comment types work with AI Comment Assist?

    • AI Comment Assist is available for Checkbox and Multiple Choice comment types only. It is not available for text, date, or number fields.

  • Can I edit the AI-generated content before saving?

    • Yes! All generated fields (title, options, and description) are editable on the review screen before you select and save them.

  • Does AI Comment Assist automatically save comments to my template?

    • No. The "Save to template for use in future reports" option is off by default. You can enable it on the review screen if you'd like to save the comment for future use.
