Nobody wants to spend time entering their contacts one by one into software.

Let's move it along, shall we?!

We shall, with the ability to Import Contractors directly into your Contacts list!!!

For those of you with dozens, if not hundreds, of contractors in your network we know not having an import capability has been a roadblock to using the Recommended Contractors feature. No more!

Now you can quickly get to the good stuff--serving your clients better by taking the hassle and anxiety out of cultivating a "who should I go to?" list. Build your network; impress your clients--now.

How to Import Multiple Contractors Simultaneously

There are two options for how to import multiple contractors simultaneously:

  1. Download our template, enter your data, save the file, and import it using the Upload CSV button.

  2. Use your own CSV file of contractor information.

Notice how we annoyingly keep saying "CSV"?

That's because your file must be in this format in order to make your day. If the file you are working with is not in this format, save a copy as a CSV (if working in Excel) or download a as a CSV (if working in Google Sheets).

Required Fields

No matter which option you choose (your file or our template), there are certain fields that must have data--if missing, the contractor won't successfully import.

Here's a list of ALL the fields we accept. Required fields are bolded.

  • contractor types (required)

    • IDs split by semicolons. Example: appliance;cabinet;carpenter;concrete;

    • You'll need a list of contractor IDs (see the "Learn How" section of the three-step import process).

Learn How on the First Step of Importing

  • first name (required if no company name)

  • last name (required if no company name)

  • company name (required if no full name)

  • email (required)

  • phone (example: 312-555-5555)

  • website

  • address

  • city

  • state/province

  • zip code

  • country (use initials: "US", "CA", "AU", etc.)

  • description

  • status (use "active" or "inactive", will default to "active" if blank)

Data Mapping

After you've uploaded your CSV file, you'll need to map your data to what Spectora needs to import the contact.

At this step you'll see the list of data fields Spectora expects on the left of your screen and the headers we've read off your uploaded CSV file on the right of your screen.

We'll do our best to match your headers to our fields, but you'll need to review and make any changes necessary using the dropdown selectors. There is a "Do Not Import" selection should you decide not to bring in a particular column of data (this is only applicable to non-required fields).

Data Mapping is the Second Step

Final Step

If your spreadsheet is formatted correctly, includes required fields, and doesn't contain duplicates, the final step is really just a confirmation page that all is well. Your contractors have all been imported.

There can be scenarios where not all contractors were imported. This means some on your list were successfully imported, but some were not.

We'll display those "some were not" folks so you can not only see which ones didn't make it on that first pass, but also allow you to make edits to data right on the screen so we can successfully import them without you having to do anything else.

Make Corrections Inline (no additional upload needed)

In the rare case where none of your contractors were successfully imported, we'll tell you why. In the example below, the uploaded file had one contractor (for illustrative purposes only) and that one was a duplicate of another already in the system and we want you to review all the info and make changes to your file for re-uploading. If this file included more contacts that had no issues, those would have been imported successfully. If the file included more contacts that had issues of their own that could be edited onscreen, we would have displayed just those as in the example above.

If No Contacts can be Imported We'll Display Why

Happy Network Building

We hope this capability gets you excited to build your contractor network and share those great resources with hungry clients.

You'll impress your clients, serve them better, and position yourself for growth.
