Multi-Party Payments lets the primary client on an inspection have two invoices: their main invoice, plus a secondary invoice. Some inspectors use that second invoice to collect a deposit — billing part of the fee upfront and the rest on a second invoice.
This is existing Multi-Party Payments behavior, not a separate feature. If you have Spectora Payments set up, Multi-Party Payments is automatically available — there's no setting to turn on. It doesn't work with Deferred Payments.
How it works
How it works
Normally, a secondary invoice created with Multi-Party Payments goes to a third party, like an agent. But the same secondary invoice can go to your primary client instead — giving them a deposit invoice and a separate invoice for the remaining balance.
Only the primary client is eligible for this. The secondary invoice for a deposit has to be created for the primary client on the inspection.
A secondary client can't be the one with the deposit or secondary invoice. If there's a second client contact on the inspection, that contact can't be the one billed on the secondary invoice — the deposit workflow only works for the primary client.
Taking a deposit
Taking a deposit
To collect a deposit from your primary client using a secondary invoice:
On the inspection details page, click Add Invoice in the Payments box.
Select the primary client from the Contact drop-down menu.
Select the specific service, or enter a fixed amount, for the portion you want to collect as a deposit.
Click Save, then click Send on the new invoice.
Preview the email and click Send now. The client receives this as a separate invoice to pay.
The client's main invoice automatically reflects the remaining balance, which they pay separately.
Both invoices appear in the Fees & Payments box, so you can track the deposit and the remaining balance in one place.
