How to setup and use Service Categories in Spectora

With the introduction of Service Categories, companies using Spectora Advanced can now categorize their services and add-ons, making it easier to organize offerings and enhance business reporting. This new feature helps streamline your service management and provides clearer insights into your business, allowing you to better understand your performance and growth.

When using those service categories, you'll be able to filter your metrics/data exports to include/exclude specific service categories in the data, to help you collect more specific info!


Why Use Service Categories?

Using service categories in Spectora benefits your business:

  • Improved Organization: Easily group related services for better internal management.

  • Enhanced Reporting: Use categories to generate more specific business reports, helping you track trends and revenue streams.


Setting Up Service Categories

We pre-load several service categories for you, but you can create your own categories with the steps below:

  1. Click "Settings"

  2. Click "Services & Fees"

  3. Click "Service Categories"

  4. Click "Add Service Category"

  5. Enter a name for your category

  6. Select the service type from the dropdown menu

  7. Add a description for the service category if you'd like

  8. Click "Confirm"


Assign Services to a Category

You can easily add each of your existing services to a service category! The steps below will show you how:

  1. Click "Settings"

  2. Click "Services & Fees"

  3. Click on a service to expand it

  4. Click "Service Category" to open a dropdown menu

  5. Select the category from the menu

❇️ Pro-tip: You can select a service category for each of your add-ons too!


Using Service Categories

Service categories allow for the grouping/categorization of certain services for ease of reporting - currently just via the Custom Data Export as an included Data Selection and/or Filter

Once you’ve set up service categories, they’ll be visible in your reporting tools.

Editing or Removing Categories

If you need to make changes to your categories:

  • Edit a Category: In the Service Categories tab, click the "edit" button to the right of the category name to rename it or update its details.


  • Remove a Category: Click the arrow icon next to a category, then click "delete." Note that any services assigned to this category will remain but will no longer be categorized.



Tips for Effective Service Categories

  • Be Clear and Consistent: Use intuitive names for your categories to ensure your team easily understands them.

  • Keep It Simple: Avoid creating too many categories—group similar services together for better usability.

  • Review Regularly: As your business evolves, revisit your service categories to ensure they reflect your current offerings.
